Monday Night Musings
So I'm back in Alberta after a trip that dutifully adhered to Sod's Law. Going home was...that mixture of all right and depressing and complicated that only staying with a parent as an adult can be. I feel rather better being back in a familiar place with my privacy and a routine. In some ways I'm glad that I forced myself to make these two big moves for school, to prove to myself that I could, but nonetheless I'm really made for settling into one place and staying put. Hopefully after I graduate I can manage to get a job somewhere I want to live, and I'll never move again. Coming back, I had a layover in Calgary and glimpsing the mountains made me suddenly miss Vancouver. I couldn't take the constant rain there, let alone the mindboggling expense, but on those rare sunny days it really can leave you dumbstruck and grinning and happy to be alive from the skyline alone. Edmonton has a perfectly nice river valley, I suppose, but it's not a place to stun you with random moments of beauty. And my neighbourhood constantly smells of sewage.

Anyhow, today was my first day back at school, and it turns out that my Monday class has all of three people in it. I suppose that's a mixture of the course title (Database Design for Information Management) and the fact that the prof is insane and incompetent when it comes to assignments, but I was one of the few to get a decent mark in her class last term and I find relational model databases quite soothing and satisfying, like those table logic puzzles we used to get in elementary school. This class will be good for personal attention, I suppose, but on the downside there's no way to slack off for even one session when you get called on every third time.

In other news, Smutmas reveals went up and I finally get to say an astonished thank you to everyone who recced my story, because I don't think I have ever had so much feedback for a fic in one go, and especially not in an exchange. Am reposting it directly after this just so I actually get notice of a new comment if anyone ever reads it in the future. My happy gratitude to everyone who took the time (or took the chance) to read it and comment the first time around.
